About Jennifer Lorey, LCSW, CEDS Boca Raton PsychotherapistI am a psychotherapist with a private practice in Boca Raton, Florida and have been working in my field since 1999.  My credentials include a Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University and I am  a Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW – License #SW10463.)  I am also a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS.)  I specialize in eating disorders, addiction and substance abuse, trauma, anxiety, depression, mood disorders and personality disorders.   My services include individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy and group therapy. If you are unable to visit my office I offer sessions by teletherapy as well.  I am also a certified clinical supervisor for social work interns.

I earned my undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Hood College in Frederick Maryland in 1993. I then moved to New York City and earned my Masters of Social Work Degree from New York University in 1999. Having a passion for working with adolescents and their families I began my Social Work career at The Phoenix House Foundation, Step One Program, an alternative high school / Intensive Outpatient Treatment program from inner city troubled youth. I held a position of both a primary therapist as well as the lead family therapist at Step One for 3 years. I also became a primary therapist in an additional after school outpatient and family program for New York City adolescents called the IMPACT program at Phoenix House until 2002.

Continuing my passion for this work with adolescents and families I joined The Caron Foundation working in their Student Assistance Program – a program geared towards educating faculty, students and families on the dangers of addiction as well as a separate smoking cessation program. I spoke at both private and public schools throughout New York City and the surrounding counties while also facilitating the E.N.D. smoking cessation program for teens.

During this time I began my private practice held on the upper east side of Manhattan working specifically with adolescents and adults around addiction and the associated issues. My career in helping those struggling with the disease of addiction continued at The Caron Foundation at The New York Recovery Center. I worked directly with a program called Road to Recovery, an organization that provided adolescents with an opportunity to work with musicians in recovery (writing songs, playing instruments, etc.) while also addressing the struggles with early recovery. In 2006 I moved to South Florida working at Caron Renaissance as both a primary and family therapist eventually moving on to The Florida House Experience as a primary therapist working with adults and families. She also co-facilitated the monthly family program and where she most recently held the position as the Clinical Director. I am also a faculty member at The Rosewood Institute and have spoken at conferences about the connection between chemical dependency and eating disorders and how to appropriately address each.

Throughout all of my agency work my focus has been not only on helping those clients who struggle with the disease of addiction, but also with the people in their lives that are impacted by it. I also have maintained my practice throughout the years offering serviced that address issues around eating disorders, addiction, depression, anxiety and personality disorders.

I have been a member of The National Association of Social Workers since 1999, a member of The International Association of Eating Disorders (IAEDP) since 2006 and am also a member of the South Florida chapter of The International Association of Eating Disorders.  I strive to be active in the field constantly keeping up to date with current trends and new developments in the field.

My Philosophy

“Truth over harmony must prevail – in order to see the light you cannot live in the darkness, I believe in helping my client’s move out of the dark”

My treatment philosophy is to earn trust and build rapport through an empathetic yet direct approach.  I believes in fostering growth and independence for my clients encouraging them to challenge themselves in the very areas that they struggle.  I believe in the client’s right to self-determination and will rely on the client’s honesty and openness to help them.  I also believes that my clients must have faith and trust in me and be willing to hear the things that they may not want to.
